Skeletal muscle-on-a-chip in microgravity as a platform for regeneration modeling and drug screening
Kim and colleagues examined the effect of microgravity in engineered muscle bioconstructs aboard the International Station National Laboratory. The transcriptional results show a metabolic shift toward lipid and fatty acid metabolism and increased apoptotic pathways in microgravity. This signature was partially inhibited by pro-regenerative drugs like insulin-like growth factor-1 and a 15-hydroxyprostaglandin dehydrogenase inhibitor.
